Juli

25 Sep

Juli passed away early this morning. I am leaving Thursday morning and the funeral will be Saturday morning. Below is what her twin brother John wrote shortly after he received the news of her passing. Peace

Written 12 hours ago by John Mackey

John14:1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Juli was promised a room in heaven many years ago. The last 13 months, Juli has been in many different rooms here on this Earth. Our family and friends have spent many hours over the last year year trying to make these rooms as livable, comfortable, peaceful, and joyful, as possible. We all did this out of our love for Juli. I think we did a pretty good job with preparing Juli’s various rooms and loving her as much as was possible for us here on Earth.

I know that Juli fought her battle with courage, strength, hope, patience, and most importantly faith. She knew her Father had already prepared a room for her. This room is so much better than anything we have provided for her here. Her room now is a place where she can spread her wings to their fullest. God loves her more than any of us, and all of us together, are able to love her. How comforting it is to know that Juli is loved so much by our Father.

Juli left her physical body this morning surrounded by her loving husband, Doug, her loving mother, Judy, and her two loving dads, Jack and Marvin. She passed peacefully, free of the pain of this world. She told mom this morning that she was “in the Word”. Juli was so faithful and was such a tremendous testimony of how powerful our walk with God can be and should be.

Juli walked the walk, she talked the talk, as a reminder to us all of how our relationships with God can make us stronger.

I was feeling guilty for grieving until a sweet friend reminded me that we grieve because we love so deeply. What a great way for us to realize how powerful love is. For those of you who are grieving, let it be a reminder of the great love Juli had for you and that our Father has for us.

I know that Jules is watching over us now. She is at peace. She is smiling. She is waiting for those of us who already have a room prepared in Heaven or who decide later to join us.

Juli’s wings are spread and she is soaring high like an eagle. She is running and she is not weary.

It’s time to celebrate Juli’s life here and her eternal life with our Father in heaven.

I will keep this site updated for the arrangements. We are talking about having the funeral in St. Cloud on Saturday and a memorial service at a later time in Arkansas. I will post as soon as I know specific details.

We love you all and will not ever be able to thank you enough for all you have meant to Juli and our family for your prayers, messages, thoughts, financial support, and love.

With love,

John

Strange Bedfellows

24 Sep

juli's rainbows

Writing today very heavy hearted. Just was browsing Facebook and many of Juli’s cousins and family are posting photos of her when she was little, teenager, and now. Bittersweet. Juli is moving into a home today where she can be comfortable and in a little more relaxed setting. One thing that happened with Juli this past year was when she needed a message from God, a rainbow would appear. Usually it would happen after a scary moment with her illness. Last Tuesday was a traumatic day for her. After the procedure was done and she was back in her room, she looked out the window and there was this rainbow. Once again it was her message.
I spent last week with her and it was very special. Her sister Marjay and I both came in on Monday. We were able to spend some time with Juli that night. She was very happy to see her sister and they were able to spend a lot of time with each other. Marjay and I spent Tuesday watching Juli’s daughter Lacey which was great. She is such a little Huckleberry Finn girl. Always barefoot and loves lizards and can entertain herself for hours. I wish you could have seen her face when it was time when we could finally go see Mommy.
Now here comes the strange bedfellows part. Juli’s room was set up with her in the recliner and then there is a queen size bed in it. Since Marjay and her Dad had to leave Thursday, she spent Wednesday night with Juli and her dad. They slept in the same bed since they needed to get up and down a lot. On Friday, Juli’s twin brother John came in. He and I were on night duty that night. When we told Juli that he and Aunt Jay were going to sleep in the same bed that night, she just wasn’t too sure about that!!! We had duties of giving medicine and a little moving around at 11 pm and knew we were need to get up again at 3 am we decided to stay awake. So……we just laid in the bed and talked for hours. Then we were up with Juli until 4:30 am. I, of course, had come across a box of Jujubes at Walgreens and was munching on them during this time and dropping them on the floor etc. Juli heard us talking about them and she stuck out her hand. We gave her 1 orange one which is her aura color. (These were extremely soft ones and I wouldn’t have let her have a hard one. Only those who have eaten a jujube with me will understand this) She chewed and chewed on it. Saturday night, it was Judy and John in bed together which is weirder since that is Mother and son. Yesterday when I talked to Judy, she said that her ex husband Jack, Juli’s Dad, was there and also her husband Marvin. Marvin had decided he was going to spend the night at the clinic. Judy wasn’t sure where everyone was going to sleep and Judy said “I refuse to sleep with my husband and ex-husband in the same bed!!” I guess the staff was all over that.
SPECIAL MOMENTS: We snuck in bites of Panera’s cinnamon crunch and chocolate chip bagels with cream cheese so she could have yummy little bites. She would savor every little chew and say “mmmmmmm, that’s is soooo gooood”.
The place where Juli is staying is a holistic/juicing/natural eating place. So..one day Judy asked me to take a drink of the green juice. I tasted it and it was actually pretty good, so I drank about a half of glass of it. Then Juli said, “Aunt J, drink the smoothy with me. So…I drank the smoothy and it was pretty darn good. Then I had to run some errands. By the time I got out of the clinic door, my arm started itching. As I was eating lunch, my legs began to feel funny. I’m thinking “uh,oh”. Off I went to Walgreens, and I was ripping open a box of benedryl before I even got to the counter. Saved once again by benedryl. I asked the juicing lady what the ingredients were that may have caused the reaction. We narrowed it down to……..hemp powder!!!
Juli loves having her feet and legs rubbed. She would say “that feeeeels sooooooo goooood”.
It was so sweet to see her with Marjay and John. She was so happy to see them. I think they had some good moments with each other.
Juli still has her big smile and her caring heart which shows through all the difficulty she is going through. She always worries about whoever is helping her out of the chair and would not let them help her if she knew they had back issues. She would always apologize for a little burp.
One day I was rubbing her feet and talking to Marjay and we were talking about my upcoming trip to Paris. Juli said “I want to go to Paris”. If I could, I would have changed places with her right then so she could go to Paris. We must treasure our days and opportunities.
As I was flying home, all of a sudden I was weepy and sitting in the middle seat. I don’t know why a conversation started with the lady sitting next to me but it turns out she was a hospice nurse! What a comforting lady she was as I talked about Juli and the week. Isn’t life sometimes just incredible?
Juli is moving into a home today where she can be in a more comfortable surrounding. Right now, Judy, Marvin and Jack will be there. My sister Jolene is flying in on Wednesday and Juli’s aunt Marjorie is flying in Thursday. They can all stay at the house. (Side note: Marjorie is Judy’s ex’s sister. Her name and my name were combined for Marjay’s name)
Trying to get my brain back into La Veta. Denny did a great job holding down the campground while I was gone. We are surprised that we do have quite a few still coming in. It’s a nice time to be here and there is a hint of the colors beginning to change. We also had a dusting of snow on the peaks. I am sitting my office bundled up with a little heater on. I love fall in Colorado.
Peace

15 Sep

Just finished checking in 3 rv’s who are here for several days. At the first of the month, we thought it was going to be a rather slow month, but it has actually been rather busy. Definitely enough to pay the bills.
The last couple of weeks were busy. Gayle, Mary and I worked on some projects around the house. We unpacked the rest of the boxes. Still have lots of organizing to do, but for the most part, I feel pretty settled. Mary’s sister Jeannie and her husband came and stayed for a week. Mary and Gayle left this past Wednesday. It was hard to say goodbye to Mary. She was such a great help while she was here. Last Sunday night we had a potluck and she was able to say goodbye to the campers. We also invited several friends from town so it was a fun evening.
Have been able to do a little socializing. Played poker with my old poker group the other night. That was fun. Yesterday, Mitzi and I went to Pueblo to see “Insidious 2”. It was so-so. Not a lot of jumpy parts. Then we went shopping at Kohl’s. I needed a few things for the Paris trip. That is coming right up. Still trying to decide if I should request wheelchairs at the airports. After walking through Walmart last night, I may definitely do it. I do have some lace up ankle braces that help some. I am truly wondering what my future will be regarding my feet. I am now a full 2 years into this issue.
Still have some bears roaming around. Denny went out to shut the dumpster the other night and a bear jumped out of it!! That was scary. Photo of mama bear and one of her 2 cubs. One cub was black and one was brown. We can see them on the way up to Cuchara.

We have planted some new trees along our fence line sites. In a couple of years, there will be some nice shade on those sites too. It was cool, a man who lives up on Cordova Pass offered to bring some fir and pine trees this fall. So… I called him and here we are with new trees.

Heading out tomorrow for Sarasota, FL to be with my sister Judy and my niece Juli. Juli has had a tough go of it these last couple of weeks so my other neice Marjay and I will be down there this week to help out. Hopefully Judy can get some much needed rest. Many, many prayers needed for Juli’s to ease Juli’s pain and prayers that she can be comfortable.
That’s it for now. Trying to get things organized for Denny in the office. We have to leave here around 3:30 am to have me at the airport by 5:00 am.

September 1, 2013 5th month of owning an rv park

Photos are of our latest updates, the game room building and card room and our dumpster knocked over.
Can’t believe I have turned over another month on the calendar. We have survived 4 months owning the park. Still happy we have done it and it has been a very rewarding time of our lives.
It’s beginning to feel like fall which is one of the best times to be in the La Veta area. It’s breezy and cool. We are supposed to get some rain today which I hope we do. When it rains, the water returns to our river.
I just returned from a fast trip to Springfield, MO by way of Topeka. Mary and I left last Tuesday leaving Denny in total command of the park. We met up with Gayle at Prairie Band Casino to spend the night and play the machines. Billie came up for a few hours too. We were celebrating Gayles upcoming retirement which was this last Friday. We had a fun evening with the machines and had several hours of entertainment. I was up early to get blood work done and to head to Springfield. Made it to see Mom and pickup my sister Jolene at the airport on Wednesday. We took mom to ortho doctor on Wednesday and he gave the okay for her to have a partial knee replacement on October 15. Her knee is pretty gnarly looking so hopefully it will give her some relief.
Gayle Mary and I hooked up at 10th and Gage in Topeka and we headed for Colorado by 3. We drove to Dodge City when Gayle remembered there was a casino there. We thought we better celebrate her retirement again. After eating a giant prime rib, (see photo above), we played the machines and I actually won $141.00 on the Zeus machine and actually cashed it out. That was exciting. We were back on the road by 9 Saturday morning. It was a lot of driving during the week and of course I almost fell asleep at the wheel once we hit Hwy 10 out of La Junta. Mary jumped in and finished driving into La Veta. Denny was happy to see us all. We are back to normal again today. Mary working at consignment store. Gayle is getting acclimated and Denny is out painting. He started the morning cleaning up all the trash out of the dumpster because the bears knocked the whole thing over last night. It’s made out of steel and is very heavy so they were very determined. The bears are foraging so it will probably happen some more.
Had my physical while in Topeka. I’ve had some weird spells, (when haven’t I had weird spells) and he was attributing to possibley some hormone issues. So…I’m trying something new and he thinks I’ll feel a lot better. We shall see.
Continued prayers for Juli. She has finished her last round of chemo and will not do it again for awhile but she will continue to get her nutrition treatments and her and Judy will continue to stay in Sarasota. She’s struggling with the lymphedema in her legs right now and has a therapist working with her on that and hopefully it will ease up soon. She’s very remarkable and is still fighting her cancer with all of her might and prayers.
